Your Voice Matters: Linear vs. Semester Schedule Public Engagement

April 14, 2025 9:39 AM

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ District (SD42) is gathering input from students, staff, and families across the district on potential changes to secondary school schedules at individual schools.

Currently, all SD42 secondary schools follow a linear schedule, where students take up to eight classes throughout the full school year. Moving forward, some schools may continue with this model, while others may transition to a semester schedule, with up to four classes per semester and two semesters in a school year.

Any approved schedule changes would take effect in the 2026/27 school year.

Your input matters

We’ve launched separate surveys for:

  • Secondary students
  • Staff
  • Families
  • Garibaldi Secondary ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ staff, students, and families (who will complete a separate survey focused on supports for the existing linear model)

All surveys are open until May 2, 2025 and can be accessed through the consultation webpage: sd42.ca/secondary-scheduling-engagement

Garibaldi Secondary ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½

Due to its Middle Years and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, Garibaldi must continue with a linear schedule. As a result, GSS staff, students, and families will complete a different survey focused on identifying the supports and structures that will continue to strengthen success within the existing model.

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Pop-Ups (April 15 – May 1)

Student pop-up booths will take place during lunch hours at each secondary school to support participation. You can view the full timeline, including school dates, here: Download the Consultation Timeline

Translations Available

Translated versions of the survey questions and answers are available on the consultation web page (/secondary-scheduling-engagement/). These can be accessed using the built-in Google Translate feature in the top corner of the website.

Thank you for taking the time to share your input. Your feedback will help inform decisions that best support student learning and well-being.

Dear families,

As we prepare to pause and enjoy the winter break, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on what connects us as a school district and a broader school community. December 18, 2024: Eric Langton Replacement Project Update (with videos)

December 20, 2024 10:16 AM

The construction crew has nearly completed the excavation work required to prepare the site for the foundation of the new building. They are now excavating to lay out underground utilities and services, including sewer, water, electrical, and data lines.Ìý

At the same time, the crew has been putting up concrete shear walls that provide seismic restraint and will limit building movement during earthquakes. All shear walls should be in place by mid-January, and at that time, structural steel work will begin. The steel superstructure, pictured below, will connect to the shear walls and provide support for the floors, walls, and roof.
