Welcome to the Garibaldi Secondary Ҵý Survey

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows Ҵý District (SD42) is gathering input from students, staff, and families across the district on potential changes to secondary school schedules at individual secondary schools. While some secondary schools may shift from a linear to a semester model, Garibaldi Secondary must continue with a linear schedule to support its Middle Years and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs.

As a result, Garibaldi Secondary has a separate survey that focuses not on choosing between schedule models, but on identifying the supports and structures that will continue to strengthen student success within the existing linear model.

Your feedback is important and will help ensure that Garibaldi’s schedule continues to support student well-being, learning, and engagement.

Tutorial Instructional Time

Tutorial Instructional Time
A tutorial block is a scheduled period during the school day that provides students with flexible time to engage in activities that support their academic success and personal growth. Students may use this time to:

  • Receive extra help or tutoring from teachers
  • Work on assignments or group projects
  • Participate in enrichment activities or clubs
  • Explore areas of interest beyond the standard curriculum
  • Engage in self-directed learning or independent study

The goal of the tutorial block is to provide students with autonomy in their learning while ensuring they have the support and resources they need to succeed.

5. In the school’s linear timetable, what do you believe is the ideal number of tutorial blocks per week?

(A definition of tutorial blocks is provided above.)

6. Is there any other feedback you would like to share?
Thank you for your feedback!

Your input will help us understand what supports and structures are most helpful for students at Garibaldi.

A summary of what we heard will be shared with the community in the fall of 2025.
