Environmental ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ in Maple Ridge gets new name

June 25, 2025

By Colleen Flanagan, Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows News

A bird heralded for its wisdom is behind a new name and logo for Maple Ridge’s Environmental ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½.

The school now goes by the name tseet muhxw Environmental Community, a name meaning great horned owl, and gifted to the school by the Katzie First Nation.

It is pronounced “seet mukh”.

The News is using the English spelling of the name using the Latin alphabet, spelled out by school language planner, and member of the Katzie First Nation, Paula James, because of the diverse characters and symbols used in the Halkomelem dialect.
