After-Ҵý Programs

Registration for fall after-school programs opens at 12 p.m. on September 9, 2025, and closes at 11 p.m. on October 8, 2025.

Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows Ҵý District No. 42 is pleased to offer an array of fun, educational, and sustainable after-school programs in collaboration with our community partners. The after-school programs we offer provide expanded educational, emotional, and physical learning opportunities to help motivate and engage children.

How to register

All registrations are on a first come, first serve basis. Programs may be cancelled due to low enrolment. Students will go straight to the program at the bell.

The Active Kids Club Program (Grades K-7)

The Active Kids Club (AKC) program is a licensed after-school program that operates in partnership with Ҵý District 42 in local elementary schools. Children in grades K-7 are supervised by trained City of Maple Ridge Children’s employees. AKC offers daily snacks and a safe, fun, active, and inclusive environment for children after school until 6 p.m.

Shotokan Karate (Grades 1-7)

Pitt Meadows Shotokan Karate offers classes in two programs twice a week at École Pitt Meadows Elementary. Shotokan is designed to teach self-defence, build self-confidence, stimulate a sense of well-being and provide a greater sense of self-awareness when faced with difficult situations. The program’s primary goal is to teach respect for one’s self and others, as well as basic self-defence techniques. This program is taught in French, English and Japanese, giving students the opportunity to develop basic language skills.

Nooma Space: Love 2 Dance (Grades K-5) 

Nooma Space’s dance program is designed to build confidence, empathy, and creativity through hip-hop dance. Kids learn basic moves in a fun, supportive environment, with a focus on self-expression and teamwork. The program also includes student dance showcases.

Albion FC: After-Ҵý Soccer (Grades 4-7)

Yennadon Elementary

The Active Kids Club Program (Grades K-7)

The Active Kids Club (AKC) program is a licensed after-school program that operates in partnership with Ҵý District 42 in local elementary schools. Children in grades K-7 are supervised by trained City of Maple Ridge Children’s employees. AKC offers daily snacks and a safe, fun, active, and inclusive environment for children after school until 6 p.m.

Family Education & Support Centre Zoom Classes

Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows Ҵý District No. 42, in partnership with the Family Education & Support Centre, is offering evening Zoom workshops. Class materials and Zoom links will be emailed to you before the session. All courses follow a workbook format, so please print the materials or have them available on another device during the class. Pre-registration is limited to one parent/caregiver as spaces are limited; however, more than one parent/caregiver may participate in the Zoom meeting. A 24-hour cancellation notice is required for a refund. Workshops may be cancelled due to low registration.

Conflict Resolution Workshop

The Family Education & Support Centre is thrilled to present a workshop that will provide knowledge and skills for dealing with conflict as a parent/guardian. Some learning tools will include “I” statements, conflict management styles, trigger scale, active listening, paraphrasing, and open questions for parenting.

Parenting Resilient Children Workshop

The Family Education & Support Centre is excited to present an online workshop that will help parents/guardians better understand resiliency and how to foster it within their households. We will look at the four aspects of resiliency, including optimism, emotions, relationships, and competency.

Home Alone Workshop

This two-hour Zoom course is an opportunity for parents/caregivers who want to prepare with their child for staying at home alone. Topics covered include dealing with emergencies, answering the door, snacks/cooking and gauging your child’s readiness to be home alone. Our evening workshops are open to all families in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. Parents/guardians must participate with the child.

Non-Instructional Days

Red Cross: Babysitting Course (Ages 11-13)

The updated Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Course helps youth build confidence and responsibility while caring for children. With a greater focus on First Aid and emergency preparedness, the course also covers leadership, decision-making, child development, behaviour management, safety awareness, and the basics of caring for infants and children. Participants will also learn how to run a babysitting business.

Financial Support

KidSport

KidSport provides grants to help cover the costs of registration fees so that all kids aged 18 and under in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows can play a season of sport.

Jumpstart

Families sometimes need financial assistance to get their children into a sport or physical activity. Jumpstart is committed to helping all families access a range of activities, from boxing to bowling and skating to skiing, and more.
